BETTER CITIES FOR PETS™ certified cities have programs and policies that make it easier for pets and pet owners to live a happy, healthy life together. Certified in the BETTER CITIES FOR PETS™ program in 2023, Baltimore, MD scored especially well in the Shelters trait of our pet-friendly cities model.

Baltimore is also a BETTER CITIES FOR PETS™ grant recipient. The city received a grant in 2024 to create a Return to Home Coordinator position at Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS) that will manage a reunification process for lost pets and provide support for pet parents in crisis.
