Sunrise, FL

BETTER CITIES FOR PETS™ certified cities have programs and policies that make it easier for pets and pet owners to live a happy, healthy life together.

What Makes Sunrise a Pet-Friendly City?

Certified in the BETTER CITIES FOR PETS™ program in 2022, Sunrise, Florida, scored especially well in the Shelters trait of our pet-friendly cities model.

There are restaurants, hotels and communities in the city of Sunrise that allow and encourage pets within their establishments. The city is also working to build a pet-friendly park where pets are allowed off-leash. The intent is to encourage exercise for both pets and their humans, as well as opportunities for pet owners to socialize and decompress.

The city of Sunrise Civic Center also houses a walkway for pets and their owners to exercise on a daily basis, weather permitting. During the pandemic, Sunrise has recognized the potential for pets to bring people together when there are programs and businesses that encourage pet inclusion.

And that’s not to mention Woofstock! That’s Sunrise’s annual celebration of dogs and dog lovers, which features entertainment, demonstrations, specialty retail vendors, food and more. There are always rescue groups in attendance, offering pets for adoption. The most recent event was in February 2022.
