What Makes Sheboygan a Pet-Friendly City?

Certified in the BETTER CITIES FOR PETS™ program in 2022, Sheboygan, Wisconsin, scored especially well in the Parks and Business traits of our pet-friendly cities model.

Sheboygan is also a BETTER CITIES FOR PETS™ grant recipient. The city received a grant in 2021 to help pets and pet parents spend meaningful time together in the community by installing signage, waste stations and water fountains in public spaces and creating an online hub about local shelters, parks and pet-friendly businesses.

Among other attractions for pet parents, the community includes a dog run that’s free to use and open daily from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. and dogs are welcome on the beach at Lake View Park.

The community boasts pet-friendly local businesses like 3 Sheeps Brewing, which welcomes leashed dogs that do well around other people and pets. Mayor Sorenson also touts the city’s pet-friendly downtown and parklet.

Sheboygan received a 2021 BETTER CITIES FOR PETS™ program grant for an initiative to help pets and pet parents spend meaningful time together in the community.
