What Makes Rochester a Pet-Friendly City?

Certified in the BETTER CITIES FOR PETS™ program in 2019, Rochester, Michigan, scored especially well in the Homes and Businesses traits of our pet-friendly cities model. The city stands out for its commitment to helping pet owners be out with their pets.

Rochester is connected to a vast trail-way system that is extremely pet-friendly. From its downtown district, which houses many pet-friendly businesses including a dog bakery, pet owners can easily walk to both the Clinton River Trail, as well as the Paint Creek Trail, making up approximately 34 miles of walking trails.

Pet owners can access even more walking paths at Rochester’s many parks. The city says it’s committed to keeping the community clean and safe for all four-legged friends, and has a strict pet clean-up policy. This ensures the downtown and parks stay clean and enjoyable for all.

The Rochester Police Department’s Paw Patrol program is a community extension to educate those who walk their dogs to become part of the department’s “eyes and ears.”
