This past weekend, we helped celebrate the opening of the new and improved K-9 Korral dog park at Harlinsdale Farms, not far from our Mars Petcare US headquarters in Franklin, Tennessee.
When dogs have a place to run and play, it can help keep them healthy, improve coordination, reduce anxiety or boredom, and stimulate their minds. Plus, active play with other pets helps improve social skills.
That’s why as part of our BETTER CITIES FOR PETS™ initiative, Mars Petcare helps support dog parks and other pet-friendly outdoor spaces that encourage exercise and interaction for both pets and people. The K-9 Korral at Harlinsdale Farms is a great example.
Franklin Mayor Ken Moore, Parks Director Lisa Clayton, Facilities Superintendent Kevin Lindsey, and Parks & Recreation Superintendent Paige Cruse were all on hand to celebrate the grand opening on Saturday, November 5.
We’ve sponsored the K-9 Korral since 2012. The original park was about an acre in size. The new K-9 Korral, which we were thrilled to support, offers three separate fenced-in areas that add up to nearly 4 acres of space for dogs to play.
There’s also a new water feature with a drinking bowl for dogs, helping meeting the important need of keeping active dogs hydrated.
Mars Petcare Associates have volunteered at the park multiple times, most recently in September when Associates gave 54 hours to help the Parks Department dismantle the old K-9 Korral to move it to the new location. Volunteers helped remove and load up old fence posts, tore out turf, removed and rolled up wire fencing, and filled holes in the new dog park with dirt.
We’re very proud to be part of a community that cares so much about the well being of pets. Congratulations to the City of Franklin on its newest dog park!
