What Makes Cleveland a Pet-Friendly City?
Certified in the BETTER CITIES FOR PETS™ program in 2019, Cleveland, Ohio, scored especially well in the Shelters and Parks traits of our pet-friendly cities model.
The city recently opened the new City of Cleveland Kennel, a 15,500-square-foot facility that accommodates up to 150 animals on a regular daily basis and 200 in emergencies. It includes indoor and outdoor play areas and an on-site veterinary clinic.
Cleveland is also known for its many pet-friendly restaurants. A recent publication from Clev Dog Magazine included a list of dog-friendly restaurants that was three pages long. Dogs available for adoption through Cleveland Animal Care and Control often visit, too!
Cleveland’s Mayor on its Four-Legged Residents
“The City of Cleveland is committed to ensuring our four-legged residents live happy and healthy lives by offering plenty of dogs parks and green spaces for their recreation. This year, we opened a new state-of-the-art $7.3 million kennel to better care for animals in need of homes. We are pleased to be named as a certified city in the BETTER CITIES FOR PETS™ program in recognition of making Cleveland a pet-friendly city.”
