BETTER CITIES FOR PETS™ certified cities have programs and policies that make it easier for pets and pet owners to live a happy, healthy life together. Certified in the BETTER CITIES FOR PETS™ program in 2021, Alexandria, VA scored especially well in the Shelters trait of our pet-friendly cities model.

Alexandria is also a BETTER CITIES FOR PETS™ grant recipient. The city received a grant in 2021 to create a Pet-Friendly Housing Program and Summit to understand local housing difficulties and build a coalition of community partners to develop pet-friendly legislation and community engagement as they work to address the issues.
